Dr Shelton and Mrs. France are among the limited number (fewer than 1%) of podiatrists in the UK who are qualified to perform corrective bone surgery on the foot. Prior to practising for seven years in the UK, Dr Shelton was the director of surgical training in foot and ankle surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in California (for eight years). Our combined surgical experience is brought into the operating theatre for the benefit of every patient we operate on. Then, following the surgery, this expertise is applied to the careful management of postoperative healing.

Preparation for podiatric bone surgery begins with careful pre-operative clinical and vascular assessment. To learn more about our circulation assessment, click here.

Also, during the pre-operative consultation, your blood pressure, medication history and dipstick urine analysis is undertaken. Furthermore, we believe that weight-bearing x-rays are required in order to appropriately determine and plan the surgical procedure to be undertaken. (to learn more about our X-ray services, click here).

The types of bone surgery we offer include, but are not limited to the following: bunion correction for moderate to severe bunion deformities, joint replacement implantation for severely arthritic big toe joints, hammertoe correction (with associated corn removal) and removal of bone spurs from various areas throughout the foot.

All of our bone surgeries are performed under local anaesthesia (you remain awake). For those of you with "needle-phobia," don't worry-we use a freezing spray to numb the skin prior to the injection of anaesthetic. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, you won't feel any discomfort whatsoever.
